Findings: When you go out on a long day hike with kids, you are wise to bring along some sort of shelter. You just never know when you may need to get out of the weather or bugs for a break. Consider it safety gear! As just barely over 2 pounds, this shelter won’t break your back. It packs small which is key. Set up is a breeze. Even my kids can do it alone. We just need to teach them to make it a bit more taught! If you are likely to use the shelter on rocky or sandy terrain, you’ll want to bring different stakes than those supplied. We find 6 penny nails work great in these conditions–they are heavy, but they work great.
