Specs per manufacturer: Diamond Grips provide aggressive traction for all winter walking conditions, from boilerplate ice to backcountry snow and everything in between. They are also effective when transitioning through gravel, rock and mud from icy surfaces. Made of case hardened steel alloy, and strung on steel aircraft cable, the patented Diamond Beads have hundreds of biting edges that grip in all directions. The bead assemblies are riveted to a tough rubber sling which remains elastic in subzero temperatures. They are easy to put on and take off, yet fit snugly and stay on without the need for additional straps. Diamond Grips are also self clearing, so there is no snow or ice build up. There is no other traction footwear product like it!

Findings: So often, company’s descriptions of their products fall short of real life performance. This is definitely not the case with ice grippers. I live in Alaska where it is winter for 6 months of the year. I have lots of opportunities to slip and slide on the ice on trails, parking lots and sidewalks. Having had 10 knee surgeries, I take the task of remaining vertical very seriously. I’ve used other brands of ice grippers before, but the Diamond grip far outperforms any of them. The coil style you see on Yak Traks can actually be more slippery in some conditions. Diamond Grips stay on, don’t get mucked up with snow and really grip the ice. You can actually run on ice in them if you desired. I know you can stud your shoes for winter and I’ve thought about doing it, but then those shoes can’t be worn inside. Ice grippers offer the flexibility of a shoe that can be worn inside or out with confidence. I tell all parents of little ones to use ice grippers to avoid falling while carrying a baby. These should become a staple item for anyone living or playing in winter areas.
