Lost Lake Trail: Winter Route

http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/aktrails/ats/ken/lostlk.htm

Distance: The whole trail from Primrose to Lost Lake trail head is 15 miles. From the Lost Lake trail head to the Dale Clemens cabin is 5.5 miles on the summer route (4 miles to the junction, then 1.5 miles south on the Clemens trail) and about 2 on the winter route.

Baby Jogger Accessibility: No way. There are a few sections where the brush would prohibit a jogger. You could navigate the boardwalks, and much of rocks, but I wouldn’t recommend bringing a jogger on this trail or the summer route for that matter.

Difficulty: The DNR website rates this trail as difficult. Dean Littlepage gives it a moderate rating in his Hiking Alaska guide. (Falcon Press. 1997) I’d give it a moderate rating.

Cool things for kids along the trail: Mucho blueberry picking on the trail. The munchkin trees are perfect for climbing and jumping off of. The cabin is a favorite of every kid I’ve ever brought there.

Additional notes: There is room for 1 good sized tent next to the cabin. There are great tent sites at Lost Lake if you want to skip the cabin option.

Trail Shots: Check out the slide show!
